What a reviewer is checking for

African perspective & representation

• Zukani exists to tell African stories. Every series should be written, set, and told from an African perspective.
• Casting should be authentic to where the story is set. Many African countries are genuinely multiracial or multiethnic — a series set in South Africa, for example, may authentically include Black, White, Coloured, or Indian South African characters, since all of those communities are part of the country's real population. What matters is that casting reflects the actual place and people your story is about, not a single expected look.
• If your story draws on a specific country, community, or tradition, get the details right — language, dress, setting, and customs should feel like they genuinely belong to that place.

Technical

• Minimum 1080p — portrait (1080×1920) for a 9:16 series, or landscape (1920×1080) for a 16:9 one. No visible upscaling.
• One orientation per series — every episode in a series stays either all-portrait or all-landscape, never mixed.
• Clean audio: no clipping or generation buzz, dialogue clearly audible over music/score.
• No dead air or abrupt cuts mid-sentence — an episode should end on a real beat, not run out of generated seconds.

AI generation quality

Zukani only accepts AI-generated content. Real, live-action footage — actual actors, cameras, and sets — isn't eligible here regardless of quality; every series must be generated using AI video tools. Beyond that eligibility bar, this is also where most submissions actually get rejected — these are the artifacts that break immersion fastest.

• No watermarks or tool branding baked into the frame from whatever you generated with.
• Character consistency — the same face, outfit, and body proportions shot-to-shot within an episode. AI tools drift; catch it before you submit.
• Voice matches the lips — no generic mouth movement under real dialogue.
• Action matches the audio — a character's expression and movement should match what's being said and the emotional tone of the score, not just play a generic idle animation.
• No warped hands, melting objects, or broken backgrounds in hero shots. (Background artifacts in a busy, far-off crowd shot are far more forgivable than in a close-up.)

Format

• 1–2 minutes per episode. Split a longer story into more short episodes instead of one long upload — add as many episodes as the story needs.
• End each episode on a hook or cliffhanger, not mid-scene.
• Cover art / thumbnail is an actual frame (or composite of real frames) from the episode — not a mismatched stock image.

Rights & content

• No third-party copyrighted music, characters, or footage you don't have rights to use.
• Consistent with Zukani's content rating — nothing that wouldn't clear a general mobile-app audience.
